Buckle Up: Abortion Stories From The Road |
Buckle Up: Abortion Stories from the Road tells the stories of people who have had to travel long distances or over state lines for abortion care. This gorgeous, stigma-busting book was edited by Emily Flake from the New Yorker. All proceeds from the book sales will benefit The Brigid Alliance, a referral-based service that provides travel, food, lodging, child care and other logistical support for people seeking abortions.
Clinic Escorts: Stories From The Front Line
In 2020, A is For published our first Comic Book edited by New Yorker artist Emily Flake and with an introduction by the critically acclaimed journalist and writer team of Kelly Kreglow and Eric Spitznagel.
Volunteer escorts from reproductive health care clinics around the country shared their experiences direct from the front lines, challenging misconceptions and exposing the reality of anti-abortion harassment. Theirs are stories that provide strength, inspiration, and a renewed sense of pride in this important act of resistance and love.
A select group of professional comic book artists have translated these stories into a beautiful and compelling compilation.
With the support of our program sponsors — Awesome Without Borders/The Harnisch Foundation, Laurie Campbell, Stockard Channing, Billy Crudup, Kathy Najimy, Martha Plimpton, and The Hilaria & Alec Baldwin Foundation — A is For was able to donate 860 comic books to abortion and healthcare clinics across the country. The books will be used as stigma-busting tools and given to staff, patients, and of course, clinic escorts.
The Clinic Escort Series Comic Book was created with a grant from Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
