'Useless'
“This painting is about my feelings of powerlessness and also my personal power to effect change. We have our hands and our voices. We have the power of action. We can effect change in the world around us no matter how bleak things may be.”

About Amanda Peterson:
As an artist, I find that I am a deeply sensitive person. That bit in my soul that allows me to intuit and prophesi with my art also opens me up to deep hurt. The overturn of Roe v. Wade left me in an absolute state of sorrow. I was and am still stunned with the court's decision. I am not ok with the loss of bodily autonomy and I fear for what this decision leads us to. I cry for the women already suffer because of this. At first I just cried and did not paint but then a few days after, I felt the strong need to paint hands. To me this painting is about my feelings of powerlessness and also my personal power to effect change. My feelings that every moment not spent raging are not worthy - not a healthy thought but what my brain kept insisting in the days after the decision... I don't have answers for these strong and dark feelings other than this painting also has some hope. We have our hands and our voices. We have the power of action. We can effect change in the world around us no matter how bleak things may be. I hope this painting brings you some hope. I know I need it.
